Traffic flows between the Baltic Ports and other major European ports
Study 03-2
The study addresses one of the most challenging aspects of maritime transportation within the EU, the Feeder and Ferry Services. In a more general sense this issue is dealt with as "short sea shipping". It will analyse the market prospects and future development of relevant cargoes in selected maritime regions to provide interested partners and others with sound background information how to react as ports to latest market developments and how to cope with the technological innovations
which will be, particularly following the "Motorways of the Sea" approach, tremendous. Specific investment needs will arise for the ports and the hinterland connections have to be optimised in order to integrate this sub-sector of maritime transport, most relevant for EU, optimally in the overall multi-modal transport chain. Here the study will give strategic answers and recommendations for the political level.
